Where will Mr Spider Sleep?
(A story for your babies, read it to them before bed)
Once upon a time, there was a boy Femi and his sister Chioma. They lived in the big city of Lagos with their parents, their housekeeper and their security guard who only opened and closed the gate for everyone going out or coming in.
Their mother’s name was Sandra Nkechi and their father’s name was Olajide. They were both Lagosians because they were born and raised in Lagos. But their grandparents were from Abia state and Osun state so Femi and Chioma had an Igbo-Yoruba heritage. Sometimes during the holidays, their paternal grandparents would take them to visit Osun state and other times their maternal grandparents would take them to visit Abia state. They loved the two states but they always said “east or west, home is home” and their home was Lagos.
One weekend after they were done with their house chores helping their housekeeper dust the sitting room sofas, they arranged their beds and they did not want the bedsheets to get rumpled before their parents come back from the gym, so they laid down on the bare floor of their room to be out of Miss Chi Chi’s way while she was cleaning.
They were not allowed to play with their phones on Saturday except mommy or Daddy was around so they decided to play hide and seek.
“If you don’t hide well and I catch you, better don’t say I cheated” Femi said to his sister. She nodded while beaming.
Femi covered his eyes with his hands but his fingers opened a little so he could tell where Chioma would hide and while she was looking for a place to hide, he counted one to ten before he removed his hands from his eyes.
Chioma hid behind her Moana wardrobe and was very quiet hoping she would not be seen easily but Femi knew where she was hiding because he cheated. So he went straight to the wardrobe.
‘I’ve caught you!!” He said and Chioma started crying.
“I know you cheated, why do you always do it? It’s people like you that make Mommy and Daddy cry because you will be ringing elections when you grow” she screamed
“It’s not ringing elections, it’s rigging and you don’t know anything” he replied
She didn’t answer him but laid down on the floor again. When he called her name and she wouldn’t answer, he sat down close to her and folded his hands over his knees.
“I’m sorry, I’ll cover my eyes well next time you hear?” He said touching her hand which she shook away.
“Femi!!!! There’s a spider web on the window” she screamed all of a sudden pointing to their window pane and they both rushed to the window to look at the spider’s web.
Chioma rushed to bring a paper to remove the web but Femi would not let her do it.
“If you remove the cobweb where will the spider sleep”? He asked, barring her from the window.
“It’ll go back to where it came from or build another one elsewhere. It’s trespassing on our window” she answered and tried to reach past him to remove the web but he stopped her again.
“The spider’s home is here for now, let’s leave it alone. We can all live together in peace except it begins to make us sick”
Chioma seemed to agree, so when auntie mommy and Daddy came back, the children told them about their new roommate the spider and even though mommy said it’s dirty to leave a web, they begged her not to remove it.
They never ever saw the spider but the web remained where it was. Chioma and Femi were told never to lie down on the floor again because the floor can be dirty sometimes and they can get cold and fall sick.
This is for your little ones, if you like it, leave me a message and I’ll post more.
